INTRODUCING THE SOUNDS AOTEAROA 2011 SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

Caley Wilson
My New Favourite, Pukekohe

Caley has a company called My New Favourite. It stages music shows designed not only to entertain but to strengthen the connection between audiences and performers. His company presents some events in theatres, where the headline act being interviewed on stage is a normal, and often revealing, part of proceedings.

CALEYAfter five years in marketing roles in London, Caley moved back home to South Auckland to set up My New Favourite. He wanted to ensure the company was playing a role in bringing Aotearoa’s cultures together. Acts that he has hosted events for include Tiki Taane, Don McGlashan, 1814, Elemeno P, Greg Johnson, Herbs, Dane Rumble, Goldenhorse and Dave Dobbyn.

Caley manages Matt Bodman - a piano-playing songwriter from Mt Maunganui - and he also helps on events like Rhythm & Vines, the APRA Silver Scroll awards and The Big Day Out. This summer he’ll be part of the More FM Winery Tour too.

Having played guitar in bands himself (where a highlight included performing at the Parihaka International Peace Festival), Caley occasionally adds an unpleasant touch to the conclusion of shows by making those backstage listen to him doing Bruce Springsteen covers.
